Viral Marketing – Internet Success

Traditional radio, standard brick and mortar distribution and being signed by a major record label are no longer the only means of getting your music the attention. Thanks to digital distribution and the mass appeal and easy access to the Internet, unknown musical talent now has a real chance of success. In addition, the indie musician is not stuck with the cost of doing an entire CD. You can make one and post it on the Internet, obtaining great success of a song. With a little know-how and marketing sensibility any musician newcomer or an experienced musical act can now achieve success, a great success, Indeed, on their own. Recently, while a guest on Sirius Satellite Radio Show the good life, I spoke with the host, who told me that her two teenage children get most of their music from the Internet and listen to regular radio anymore. Why ? Because they can get the music of acts that are not allowed to listen to traditional radio. They are tired of the same age bands and singers being played over and over again. "Most have no talent, only masterpieces." This is not the first nor the last time I heard that statement from teenagers and adults alike. For the indie artist who wants to reach a wider market (and should have a good product) and receive more exposure for your products online, the first thing you have to do is market, guerrilla market and then market some more. How is that? There are many ways I mention in my book, The Indie Guide to Music, Marketing and money, but here are some simple suggestions: • Join music boards and start the discussion. At the end of each of your messages, make sure you put who you are and your website. Add something to the conversation, no spam. Writing tips and post them on the boards, etc. If the cards do not allow the labels, but it lets you send your email address, make sure it is something with your website at the end. Have a real email address, but not to the primary email and to be released. Something like mine: raeofhope@jacirae.com • Start networking at meetings of local musicians and composer / artists forums in your area. You can find them online. These artists hold meetings like you who meet regularly to discuss the music scene and present their latest creations. It is also a wonderful place to get the pulse at the concerts you can participate in the marketing ideas in the new. • You know all that annoying spam you receive snail-paid envelopes inside? Why not save the envelopes and put a little note inside that states since they were kind enough to share their information with you, you are returning the favor. In addition, any bill or any correspondence you send is official, includes a worksheet or a small card that has an advertisement about you and your music (see the weight, you do not want to add more postage). Be sure to put your website in any material you have. • Start your own podcast and publish it everywhere podcast. • Why not send your music to different podcasts. Ask permission first. Send to your site where you can hear a sample or two and if they are receptive to the reproduction of their music on their podcast, send it along. If they use your music in your podcast you may have won new fans and sold more albums. The most important thing you can do is play live. Go to Wal-Mart, Starbucks and other local shops and ask if you can put in a free concert there. Anywhere, any place that lets you play, do! Make sure you have a registration form where people can subscribe to your newsletter. Then create and send a newsletter once a month at most. This is a form of "Buzz Marketing", also known as "viral marketing". At the end of the letter, be sure to include your website, of course. Tell your fan base that can pass at will. Wide-angle zoom lenses are one of the most important photography lenses that every wedding photographer should have, typically 17mm to 35mm in length with a fixed aperture of f/2.8. They provide a large depth of field, making it simple to have foreground and background in focus. They are an indispensable wedding photography equipment which allows versatility in confined areas such as a small banquet room or crowded dance floor. While shorter photography lenses allow you to capture more details, wide-angle zoom lenses allow you to capture more reactions and atmosphere to tell a richer story.

To elaborate further, wide-angle zoom photography lenses allow you to shoot a wider perspective of moments happening around the major subject, hence providing a bigger picture of the entire event. For example, wide-angle photos have the capability to tell “stories within a story”, allowing you to reveal more of the story behind the shot. This is essential for a good photojournalistic wedding photography. As events surrounding weddings are so time sensitive, good photography lenses will allow you to capture as many actions or emotions in the quickest time as possible.

When used in a venue such as the church or ballroom, wide-angle zoom photography lenses also magnify the grandeur and spaciousness of the area, which encapsulates the creative feel for a photojournalistic wedding photography.

However, you need to be selective of the scenes or actions using wide-angle photography lenses, as a caveat to shooting wide is that it creates some body distortion, particularly when a subject is photographed close-up. Generally, people tend to look heavier and shorter on the edges, while arms can look huge. The last thing you want is to have the bride cursing you for making her look like she has put on 10 pounds! To get around this problem, you should as far as possible avoid putting the bride and groom at the edges of the wide-angle distortion. In addition, wide-angle photography lenses might also introduce distracting or unwanted elements into the frame, which would otherwise ruin a picture perfect moment.

Wide-to-Telephoto Zoom

Wide-to-telephoto lenses are the single most important photography lenses that a wedding photographer cannot do without. They should ideally be lenses that cover somewhere around the 20-70mm focal length range with an aperture of f/2.8. This ideal range lets you get wide enough to take a group photograph and close enough to capture facial emotions in your candid shots or a three-quarter portrait of a couple without the undesirable effects of wide-angle perspective distortion. They also double as good lenses for portraits. Given just this lens, you would be able to capture most of the shots needed for a wedding decently well.

Image-Stabilized Telephoto Zoom

Image-stabilized telephoto zoom lenses are also essential items in your wedding photography equipment checklist. The 70-200mm focal length is an important range for wedding ceremony photos. It allows you to give your subjects more space in situations where you don’t want to get in the way. As you will often be photographing down the aisle from the back of the church, image-stabilized telephoto zoom lenses will come in very handy. 200mm is long enough to be able to take 3/4 length images of the bride and groom exchanging their vows while staying at a reasonable distance away from the action and 70mm is wide enough to take in the bridesmaids or groomsmen as a group without switching photography lenses.

A good point to note is that when using such photography lenses, nice blurred background can be achieved with maximum wide apertures of f/2.8 and long focal lengths of 200mm or 300mm, whether you are using a full-frame or a small sensor body. This allows you to isolate the subject from its background, and to focus attention on the image as the main subject you want to portray. Such photography lenses are especially useful for shots where you are unable to get in close and for intimate and private moments, where you want to be an unobserved stranger at a distance. Some examples include a stolen glance, a mischievous grin, a kiss – the details that are effectively conveyed by the emotions. Image-stabilized telephoto zoom photography lenses hence play an important role in capturing such moments.

These image-stabilized telephoto zoom photography lenses aren’t only good for blurry backgrounds or shooting events from a distance. They could also be used to photograph stunning facial close-ups from creative angles above or below the subject that don’t exhibit the normal distortions of large chins or shrinking heads that come from wider photography lenses.

Yet another advantage of such photography lenses is that you can use the small-sensor camera’s 1.5x crop factor to your favour. The 200/2.8 long end of the standard zoom effectively becomes 300/2.8, a lens that would cost $4000 for a full-frame camera. As we watch what is happening to Jennifer Love Hewitt in the media, we need to ask ourselves this question: If a size 2 good enough, or thin enough, where does that leave those who are a size 12 or a size 14? (which is stated to be the average size of women today).

Especially during the holidays, when there is so much anxiety over food, diets and holiday eating, this current controversy is very damaging to women. It will be a tragedy if the criticism of Jennifer Love Hewitt touches off a mass panic about women, weight, and body image.

If any good comes out of this controversy, Jennifer Love Hewitt can be a role model, as she stands her ground and out against the criticism of her body. Hewitt is fighting back, saying that as a healthy size 2, she is not fat. It is refreshing to see that she is comfortable with her body and her curves. Hopefully, this will begin a dialogue about body image, and there will be a backlash against those who have tried to embarrass her.

On the bright side, it was nice to see celebrities like Eva Mendes, Anne Hathaway, Kate Walsh, and Julianne Moore, come out in support of Jennifer Love Hewitt. All of these actresses believe in a healthy body image, and they defend the idea that it’s okay for women to be curvy. Let’s hope that Hewitt doesn’t succumb to all the media pressure to be overly thin. She’s standing her ground now, but how will this recent humiliation ultimately affect her, both personally and in her career? Only time will tell.

The ideal fluids to serve are water, milk, and juice. However, too much juice can cause diarrhea therefore making dehydration more likely to occur rather than preventing it. (Serve only natural fruit juices that do not have added sugars. It is ideal to dilute them with water.) Sports drinks such are all right in most cases. However, drinks that contain high amounts of sugar or caffeine should never be given to a child, especially on very hot days when they could do more harm than good. 

Insect bites are probably the most bothersome out of all summer’s risks. Fortunately,

Insect repellents will also help to keep the bugs that bug you away. They come in a wide variety of lotions, creams, and sprays that are simple to use and quite effective when used properly. A hydrocortisone cream will stop the itching and reduce the pain. A paste made of baking soda and water can be used as well. Leave the paste on for ten to fifteen minutes or until dry. Reapply as needed. 

If you live in an area where poisonous spiders and/or snakes lurk please don’t take any chances. If you did not see the spider or snake that bit your child, or if you are not sure

• Don’t spice it up: Avoid spicy and fatty foods, which can increase mucus production and contribute to coughs.
